Today on March 2nd we manifested our solidarity with the Austrian animal rights activists. They are facing long run repression from the state. March 2nd was called upon as the international solidarity day as it is the date of the first courtcase in the trial against the Austrian activists.
It was very good to see that quite a lot of people showed up to show their solidarity with the people who struggle every day for the animals. There were activists of different nationalities showing up in front of the Austrian Counsulate in Amsterdam.
Unfortunately the counsulate was said to be closed and activists weren't allowed inside despite their genuine efforts to do so. We managed to trick the ones behind this idea and with the help of the peace defending protect and serve unit (aka police) who in the meantime showed up, forwarded a letter of solidarity with the trialed activists and deep discontent with the state's doing to the counsulate.
Although the Austrians couldn't have chosen a more unpleasent location for their country's counsulate we managed to spread tens of flyers so as to make passerbys aware of this outrageous case with article 278a of Austria's penal code it the background.
The demonstration lasted for almost two hours during which time the doors of the building were constantly closed and opened up again because of our presence. We held a banner and chanted solidarity slogans.
Our passion for freedom is stronger than your prisons!
